Barbara King
Sara, Duchess of Nottingham
From winning the Québec Provincial Gymnastics Championship on Floor to thrilling audiences with her “exquisite vocal command of a three octave range” and the possession of a “warm, agile mezzo-soprano voice”, Canadian mezzo soprano Barbara King is no stranger to the stage. Barbara is also the co-founder Calgary Concert Opera Company (CCOC) with her husband and Divas Opera with soprano Kathleen Morrison, and ended 2022 performing as a principle soloist with the Calgary Civic Symphony in 'A Divas Christmas'.
Barbara is excited to bring in the new year by reviving the role of Sara, Duchess of Nottingham in CLM's Production of Donizetti's Roberto Devereux. Previous performance highlights include singing the titles roles of Carmen (Carmen) and Dritte Dame (The Magic Flute) with Opera Kelowna, Flora (La Traviata) with Manitoba Opera, Olga (The Merry Widow), and The Confidante (Elektra) with Edmonton Opera, Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier) and Dalila (Samson et Dalila) with Opera by Request and as a principle soloist with Straight Up Opera, Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra and Calgary Civic Symphony.
Barbara is also looking forward to performing the role of Princess de Bouillon in Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur with CCOC and Opera by Request in September 2023.
